John Daly left me in my trousers shaking a tree after I ordered whiskeys and beers at the post-round hotel meeting

Few date John Daly and live to tell the tale.

Andrew “Beef” Johnston is one of the lucky ones.

On the DP World Tour YouTube series Life on Tour, Johnston sat down and told the world about the time he went out for drinks with Daly.

Spoiler alert, it didn’t end well for Beef.

Johnston set the stage, meeting Daly for the first time at the Turkish Airlines Open a few years ago and going out for a few beers after Sunday’s final round.

Of course it’s never just one a few beers with Daly.

“We were talking and I was drinking a beer and he said, ‘We’re going to get a bucket of these beers.’ And he had obviously been drinking straight from whiskey,” Johnston said.

“And he said, ‘Look, go back to the hotel and meet me and we’ll continue.’

If Daly invites you to drink, go, no questions asked.

“I remember sitting there … and he ordered two large whiskeys,” Johnston said.

“And he has the can of Coke next to him. When the waiter put them down, [Daly] asked, ‘Can we order two more?'”

Looking at the two large whiskeys on the table and Daly already ordering two more, Johnston knew he was in trouble.

“Mate, they just came!” Johnston shouted.

Trying to keep up with Daly is a fool’s errand, as Beef eventually learned.

The beer and whiskey were flowing freely and the Englishman was in too deep.

“Next thing I know, I’m in my pants shaking a tree, and then I jump in the pool and I’m like, ‘He seems OK!’ I’m not, he seems fine!'” Johnston explained, trying not to laugh.

“And I wake up and I’m like, ‘What happened?’ And my wife at the time was like, ‘Yeah, you stripped down to your pants and for some reason shook that bush and kind of jumped into the pool.'”

Stripped down to his pants, shook a tree and jumped into a pool.

That’s what a casual outing entails, having a drink with Daly.

Johnston said when he asked what happened to Daly, he was told he was fine.

Actually more than good. Daly allegedly simply walked back to his hotel at the end of the night.

For Johnston it may have been a crazy, wild night, but for Daly it was just another day that ended in “y.”
