Eighteen-year-old American talent Clervie Ngounoue celebrated her first ITF singles title of 2025, while Portuguese sisters Francisca and Matilda Jorge secured the doubles championship at the Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham, held at Edgbaston Priory Club.
Ngounoue delivered an impressive performance throughout the week, dropping just two sets on her way to Sunday’s final. One of her key victories came in the second round against 2024 US Open Girls’ Singles champion Mika Stojsavljevic. She then faced Slovakia’s Viktoria Hruncakova in the title match, where she recovered from a set down to triumph 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, clinching the fourth ITF title of her career.
Reflecting on her win, Ngounoue shared, “It was an intense week, and it feels great to finish with the title. This was my third final of the year, so I was extra motivated to get the victory.
“I focused on staying in the moment, taking it one point at a time. I’m really pleased with the outcome. Viktoria is a fantastic player—I’ve seen her represent Slovakia in the Fed Cup (Billie Jean King Cup) and compete on tour, so I knew it would be a tough battle. I embraced the challenge, fought hard, and I’m proud I didn’t give up. She played really well, and I have no doubt she’ll be in more finals soon.”
Among the British contenders, Lily Miyazaki had the standout performance, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Hruncakova 6-4, 6-1.
In the doubles competition, Francisca and Matilda Jorge, the top seeds, claimed their second doubles title of the year and their 19th as a team. Their journey was anything but easy, requiring resilience throughout the tournament.
Following a first-round bye and a straight-sets win in the quarter-finals, the Portuguese duo faced a tough battle in the semi-finals against Latvia’s Kamilla Bartone and France’s Tiantsoa Rajaonah. After splitting the first two sets, the match was decided in a tense match tie-break, with the Jorge sisters prevailing 6-4, 2-6, 14-12. The final presented another challenge, as they took on Hruncakova—competing in her second final of the event—and Poland’s Alicja Rosolska. Once again, the match went the distance, with the Portuguese pair securing victory 6-2, 4-6, 10-5.
Tournament Director Lauren Beech praised the competition, stating, “It’s been a fantastic week of tennis at the Edgbaston Priory Club.
“The W50 event featured numerous closely contested matches, with both finals extending to deciding sets. The strong local interest brought in over 100 spectators for the finals weekend. A special mention goes to the ball crew, who received excellent feedback from players and officials.”
