Saturday’s outstanding Qipco British Champions Day card at Ascot shows six races live on ITV Racing and is worth more than £4 million in prize money. The main race is this Qipco Champion Stakes (3.55)with a Group 1 heavyweight clash between Economics and Calandagan. But who will emerge victorious at each British Champions Day event this weekend? Our top team of Weekender tipsters have their say. . .
1.20 Ascot: Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2), 1:7½ minutes
By James Hill, Weekender tipster
Kyprios will be a warm order. According to official figures, he weighs just 2 pounds ahead of Trawlerman and that gap wouldn’t be any greater given their two previous duels on the course. Trawlerman hasn’t run since his runner-up finish to his old rival in the Gold Cup, but coming here fresh is better than being overdone. As far as prizes go, I’d go with the Gosdens’ stayer to win this again.

1.55 Ascot: Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1), 6f
By Sam Hardy, Weekender tipster
The Karl Burke-trained six-year-old was an impressive winner of a Group 3 in France on soft ground this season and should find similar conditions here. Art Power was a surprise winner of the race last year and will again take his preferred spot, but as has been shown this season he is prone to quick finishers and may have to settle for a spot this time.

2.35 Ascot: Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1), 1m3½f
By Stuart Redding, Weekender tipster
Kalpana will be hard to beat when she hits her best, but the proving ground is unknown and I’m more interested in Quantanamera. She wasn’t at her best at the start of the summer but enjoyed increasing to 1m4½f at Deauville in August when she proved far too strong for Arrest. The four-year-old enjoys a soft surface and seems to be saved with this goal in mind.

Metropolitan proved he is a top-class mile runner when he won the French 2,000 Guineas race and subsequent defeats on faster ground suggest he is still improving. When he chased Charyn in August the race didn’t go quite to his liking, but he made a good move into second place late on and was easily able to gain revenge on more suitable ground. His compatriot Facteur Cheval came second last year and could come close again.

3.55 Ascot: Qipco Champion Stakes (Group 1), 1m2f
By James Hill, Weekender tipster
This is a real Champion Stakes and I would make Calandagan my favorite. But for City Of Troy I’m sure he would have been an impressive winner at York otherwise he would have had an impressive win. He is also a course winner, having won the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot, and handles soft ground well. This race has been a happy hunting ground for Gallic raiders over the years and he can end Economics’ winning streak.

4.35 Ascot: Balmoral Handicap, 1m
By Sam Hardy, Weekender tipster
Lattam may be heavily handicapped with a rating of 95, as he finished second in the Lincoln with the same rating earlier in the season. He has only run twice since then, showing his best form on soft ground and appears to have this race in his sights since switching to Julie Camacho.
