US Open semifinalist Karolina Muchova built her dream player, picking some aspects of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka’s games.
Karolina Muchova probably played one of the most dynamic and varied games on the WTA circuit.
Sporting an old-fashioned Roger Federer-style headband, the Czech has shown such skill and cunning in her return this year.
Muchova was injured after last year’s US Open, had wrist surgery at the beginning of the year and only returned to the tour in June.
In the amazing months since Muchova took off, she made it to the last four of the US Open before appearing in the final in Beijing two weeks ago.
The Czech is slowly working her way back towards her career best of number eight in the world rankings and has revealed the aspects she admires most about some of her rivals.
Karolina Muchova picks WTA dream player
The Czech’s great arsenal of shots took her straight back to the top.
Muchova’s impressive march to finish just outside the top 30 has allowed many to see a truly unique player on the tour.
Nevertheless, Muchova picked out some qualities from her teammates on the tour that she would like to have herself.
The Czech chose the forehand and serve of Aryna Sabalenka, while she opted for the movement and mentality of Iga Swiatek.
As clear numbers one and two this year, Muchova’s selection actually seems quite sensible!
The Czech also decided to include a handful of qualities from Victoria Azarenka and Daria Kasatkina. However, as a true artist at the net, she voted herself the best WTA volleyball player.
Although Muchova wants to borrow some of the Belarusian’s big weapons, the Czech is the only person to have defeated Sabalenka in the last 21 matches she has played.
Karolina Muchova could challenge at the Australian Open
After an impressive performance by Coco Gauff in Beijing, Muchova has still had a breathtaking few months on tour.
The Czech may start in Melbourne as a seeded player, giving him another chance to develop.
Her mix of power, touch and variety allows her to adapt well to hard courts, making her a tough opponent for any top player.
After reaching the final of the 2023 French Open, Muchova showed that she can handle the pressure of major tournaments.
If she stays injury-free, her combination of finesse and strategy could make her a real threat in Melbourne.
