Cycling’s biggest rivals are now friends! Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich meet again in a friendly atmosphere

Jan Ullrich and Lance Armstrong have written one of the greatest stories in the modern history of the Tour de France, even if their names have a bad reputation in the current cycling world for obvious reasons.

At the start of the new millennium, Ullrich finished second five times and won only once at the Tour in 1997. Meanwhile, Armstrong won an even more impressive seven consecutive editions between 1999 and 2005. It was Ullrich who came closest to the American three times, but never really put his victory in danger. Armstrong’s “The Look” from 2001 is now legendary, although the American recently put the story into context.

But given the circumstances, there was a public perception that the two stars of cycling’s “dark era” were enemies both on and off the bike. And maybe that was the case twenty years ago…

Since then, a lot has happened in both drivers’ lives and they eventually realized that they had a lot in common. Last week, Ullrich even visited Armstrong at his home in Austin, Texas. The two now seem to get along quite well – something that was unimaginable in the early 2000s.
