Holger Rune says what he thinks about working with Boris Becker and Patrick Mouratolgou after coaching both

Holger Rune went through several coaches early in his career but claims he has no regrets.

The Dane came into the conversation when he defeated five top 10 players in a row to win the 2022 Paris Masters.

Since then, however, Holger Rune has suffered coaching and injury setbacks, leading to a somewhat agonizing career decline.

Admittedly, Rune’s rise to fourth in the world was due to countless other players failing to defend their points.

However, Rune’s seemingly final separation as coach from Patrick Mouratogolou this year after several stints appears to have provided new stability for Rune, who still has great potential.

The 21-year-old has since formed a partnership with Lars Christensen, a coach and former player he has known since early childhood.

Rune has indicated that he has already noticed an improvement after just a few months with his new team.

However, Rune, who has gone through several coaches including Boris Becker and now Naomi Osaka’s coach Mouratgolou, has spoken about how they have all influenced his game.

“I learned a lot from every coach,” Rune said. After working with the same coach for 15 years, I think it was important for me to try something different and get inspiration from other coaches and then figure out what was best for my game and my career.

“Now I’ve tried different approaches and they all inspired me, in the end they either work or they don’t.

“We all strive to become the best tennis players we can be and we know when we are reaching our potential and when we are not. I know much better now what I need and what works for me.”

Holger Rune’s performance at the Six Kings Slam shows that he still has a long way to go

Alcaraz and Rune were born just six days apart and at one point were tipped to make it to the end.

In fact, Rune got there much quicker with his rise to number four in the world rankings. However, with his Spanish contemporary having won four major titles, it doesn’t look like he is slowing down.

After Jannik Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev in 68 minutes, Alcaraz put in a similarly impressive performance.

Alcaraz needed just two minutes longer and defeated Rune 6-4, 6-2. If Rune were to find his way back to the top, a beating on Wednesday might have been a brutal reality check.
