Supersub Wayne Lordan scored a hat-trick on a card dominated by Aidan O’Brien, who scored a 169-1 four-timer that included an explosive performance from the filly Exactly in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes.
While Ryan Moore was in action at Ascot, Lordan continued his work with Exactly. He was on board when she finished narrowly third behind Vertical Blue and Zarigana in the Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc day at Longchamp and, although this was her seventh start of the season, she looked better than ever.
With an 11-10 lead at the start, Exactly was sent to the front and raced up the home straight to beat stablemate Antelope Canyon by six and a half lengths.
Lordan is her biggest fan and said: “She’s a very easy-going filly and hasn’t done anything wrong all year. She got to know Bedtime Story and Lake Victoria, so she didn’t do anything wrong. She has a lovely mind and is very easy going.” Every day when you ride her at home she just does her usual routine and saves everything for the track and I’d say she’s a mile long at the moment anyway .
Lordan previously won the first of the Mile Fillies as a 2-5 favorite Minnie Hauk and the mile maiden for stallions and geldings Serious contender.
The other Ballydoyle-based winner on the card was Twoa newcomer to Wootton Bassett and a half-brother to the smart youth Just Wonderful. He was allowed to get away with 28-1 in the first 7f race under Mark Crehan, but clearly shows much better on the track than at home as he improved by six lengths after gaining a huge lead at the home turn.
Stock market speculators sigh after 40:1 shock
There was also a massive shock in the Group 3 Mongey Communications Eyrefield Stakes Sigh no morethe 40-1 underdog of the entire field, pounced late when Mikey Sheehy challenged him at the perfect time.
After winning a maiden race in Galway in August after reaching the maximum in-running odds of 999-1, Sign No More again came from a long way back but was ahead of Trinity by three quarters of a length good at the top college.
Winning trainer Joseph O’Brien said: “Mikey gave her a great ride and the race was very well put together. She’s tough, she’s progressive and she’s never run a bad race. I’m really excited to win a big pot.” A group race for a big ownership group, many of them are here today.
“The filly is a big team and everyone will have fun with it. She is a model of consistency. We’ve had a great year with her so far and it’s great to end it with a big win.”
