Wim Fissette outlines Iga Swiatek’s main goal as her new coach

Iga Swiatek’s new coach Wim Fissette has identified the most important goals she wants to achieve during their partnership.

The world number one has endured a difficult time off the court since her exit from the US Open on September 5.

Swiatek has not played since then, as she withdrew from the China Open for personal reasons and did not have to compete in Wuhan as she sought a new coach after parting ways with Tomasz Wiktorowski.

Things now appear to be calmer in their team following the appointment of Wim Fissette, who recently stopped coaching Naomi Osaka after linking up with Patrick Mouratoglou.

What are Wim Fissette’s main goals as Iga Swiatek’s coach?

Fissette certainly knows how to guide players to success in tennis, having helped Osaka win multiple Grand Slam titles.

Iga Swiatek, 23, has five majors to her name, four of them at the French Open and the other on the hard courts at the US Open.

The Belgian is very impressed by Swiatek’s success on clay, but also wants to make his new player a winning machine at the other Grand Slam tournaments.

“Our goal is for Swiatek to win additional Grand Slam titles on other surfaces as well. Clay court season has its own twists and turns. “Many games and tournaments will be held in a short period of time,” he told Eurosport Poland.

“You have to find a rhythm, gain confidence and after Paris it’s time to move to different surfaces. Then there is the opportunity to work on playing on other surfaces and try to be successful there.”

What is Iga Swiatek’s best result at the Grand Slams other than the French Open?

Swiatek has won four of the last five editions of the French Open and has already established herself as one of the best clay court players of all time in tennis.

But she found it more difficult to win at the majors outside of Paris, particularly on the grass at the Wimbledon Championships.

Despite winning the junior title in 2018, the Pole was unable to make it to the tournament on the WTA Tour as she never made it past the fourth round.

Swiatek made it to the semifinals at the Australian Open but was denied a place in the 2022 final after losing 4-6, 1-6 to Danielle Collins.

She won her first Grand Slam on clay by defeating Ons Jabeur 6-2, 7-6(5) to secure the 2022 US Open title.
