Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney have both achieved great things in their football careers, but the pair have a bit more time on their hands these days and may be willing to pass some time by battling it out in the boxing ring.
Both players were among the best footballers in the world in their prime and proved to be hugely influential for their club and country over many years.
Both have since retired from playing, with Ibrahimovic taking up a senior advisory role at AC Milan, while Rooney currently manages Plymouth Argyle in the Championship and is trying to get his career back on track after a disastrous spell at Birmingham City last year.
Two titans of the game, Rooney and Ibrahimovic, were even teammates for a short time during their time at Manchester United. Together they won the Europa League, the League Cup and the Community Shield with the Red Devils.
They may also be reunited in the near future, but under very different circumstances.
That’s according to Misfits Boxing promoter Mams Taylor, who has told The Sun he is trying to get Ibrahimovic to take part in a fight where Rooney is a potential opponent.

Taylor said: “I tried to convince Zlatan and he can fight. I’m good friends with his manager and the three of us FaceTimed. It was really cool because he watched a lot of Misfits fights and followed him. “He was a kickboxer, he would be a good one too.
On Rooney’s commitment, Taylor added: “I have to say there have been discussions between Zlatan and Wayne Rooney and I think it’s a matter of time. At some point it will work. There are other names that aren’t quite as big as these guys.”

Rooney has made no secret of his love for boxing in the past and was reportedly set to make his Misfits debut recently.
Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, has always taken care of his body and has remained in incredible shape despite his retirement from football.
Pitting the slimmer, more agile Swedish star against the heavyweight style of Rooney would be quite a battle and certainly the kind of fight any football fan would like to see.
